with executives and speaker phone? It’s good I have an iPod or I’d never get any work done.

SARAHK: He still wants her?
FRANK: Yes. He’s still in love with her. And she’s still in love with him.
SARAHK: Yeah. I got that.
FRANK: She’s stupid.
SARAHK: Yep. Stupid.
FRANK: She reminds me of you.
SARAHK: Yep. I’m still in love with you.
FRANK: D’oh.

I asked about the Kindle a couple of weeks ago, or maybe last week. Whenevs. I did check out the iPod Touch, and it just didn’t do it for me as well as the Kindle–and the main kicker was the looks-like-a-book thing. So I did order the Kindle 2 with my months of saved-up allowance money. And it shipped today, and I’m so excited. I’ve already started ordering a bunch of free books.

-image-Notes on the Oscars

Yeah, I learned about two hours ago that Hugh Jackman is hosting. You see how much I pay attention these days (I don’t even remember if I watched the Oscars last year), and it’s a huge turn from my olden days when I was obsessed and thought I knew everything about the movies. Which I didn’t.

I adore the opening number. The cheap sets, learning Anne Hathaway can sing. Hugh’s amazing voice and wicked awesome dancing. Best opening in ages.

Amy Adams. There is nothing to say. Just… Wow. Always wow.

Whoopi came in her fanciest housecoat.

I’m in love with everyone’s shiny baubles tonight. Except Angelina’s. I don’t even find the quirk in her baubles that would give them some kind of Hollywoodsy redeeming quality.

It was super-tacky of the cameras to pan to Brangelina while Jennifer Aniston was onstage.

I adore the winner of Animated Short who kept saying “Sank you” and then ended with “Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto.” Hahahahahaha. Admit it. It’s all any of us wanted to hear him say, right?

Vampires represent! Edward Cullen in the house! Okay, um… I thought the facial expressions were just part of the way he played Edward, and no. That somebody-farted look is apparently just part of the Robert Pattinson persona. I love it.

I love that they have Twilight scenes in one of their big movie montages. And in abundance! Cullen Power!

So… Jessica Biel’s dress. Wedding reception table cloth gets bustled around the boobs.

I may need a Christopher Walken obsession. I’ve leaned toward one a couple of times, but I’m afraid of it, because he scares me a little.

So happy that Heath Ledger won the Oscar. Truly he was one of my generation’s greatest actors. Imagine what the legend would have been if he had lived.

Wow, that Action montage was full of movies we’ve actually seen! And hahaha, I love Will Smith’s line about action movies actually having fans. True! I’m a dumb action lover myself.

I love the Oscar stage, all blinged out. So… shiny.

Michael Giacchino! At the Oscars! Conducting! It’s an ALIAS obsessee’s heaven is what it is. And okay, from the little I’ve heard of the scores, just these little bits–Slumdog Millionaire should win. The two or three bars of Slumdog Millionaire should win. Wow at Alicia Keys. And WHAT? The guy wins an Oscar for best original score and heads back onstage to sing his original song! Now who is that yummy-voiced man onstage after him? I’m so in love with his voice. It’s obviously not Peter Gabriel. Okay, I can’t find it online. Please tell me who that was, because I need more of his voice. I love it almost as much as I love James Marsters’s voice. And considering my current obsession with him (you haven’t been as privy to it as you have to my other obsessions, because I haven’t the time to blog it), that’s saying something.

Reese Witherspoon. This is the actress who will play me if they ever make a movie of my life. Not because I look remotely like her, other than the short and blonde thing. But because she’s wonderful, and I will be remembered as wonderful. Or a ginormous pain in the butt. Whatevs. However she chooses to play me is fine–she’s one of the best, so I trust her judgment. Anyway, she looks awesome. Always.

I love the director of Slumdog Millionaire who jumped up and down onstage.

Finally! Kate Winslet wins the Oscar. I didn’t see any of these movies, but in light of all her other work, I’d wager she deserves it.

Slumdog Millionaire is the big winner of the night. Good for them. Didn’t see it, but I actually want to, and that’s fairly rare for me and Oscar nominees these days.

Hugh Jackman: Best host in years. Well done.

-image-Uhm. Be afraid.

Pictures to come, but… I have bangs. Inadvertent bangs, mind you, but I have bangs. Not a good idea for most people, and certainly not for me. I also have three colors of hair. My dark brown had faded to dark blonde/light brown, so I have light brown, platinum-ish, and bronze (BRONZE, like a certain Cullen boy!) hair now.

Frank said it looked like Kelly Clarkson hair. And even though I promised myself I would refuse if she tried, I allowed my hair girl to flat iron my hair again. Which means I look like death and also like a 32-yr-old woman trying to look like an emo-ish 22-yr-old.

I should just finish off the look with some fishnet stockings and lots of cleavage. Anyone have a tube top I can borrow?

-image-better

Hey, y’all. I’m better. Yay! I still have phlegm (you wanted to know–you did, I promise) and a cough, but I’m no longer fevery and seem to have stopped dripping from the nose and sneezing from deep down in the pit of despair. Yay me.

So I’m going back to work today. Thanks for all the well-wishing.

I blogged Idol with my BFF Alice Cullen last night. You know you wanna see what she predicts.

-image-Sick in the head

Yeah, so what started out Thursday morning as a cough got progressively worse. Over the weekend I started getting runny nose, headache, and then the absolute worst–violent sneezing. But SarahK, how can sneezing be worse than coughing up a lung? Well, I promise you it can be. Every time I sneeze, I feel it in my chest, and I only feel the coughing in my chest half the time.

We didn’t even go shooting Saturday–that’s how bad I feel. We hadn’t been in over a year, so I was really looking forward to it. Saturday evening, Frank said I felt like I was running a fever, but the thermometer said differently because I’d been drinking cold drinks.

Yesterday, I definitely got the fever. 100.3, and I’m normally 97.1. Today, it’s the same.

I feel like I’m dying. I know, that makes me a big baby, but here’s the thing. I haven’t had a sore throat that I can remember since, oh, eight or nine years ago. So when I actually do get these things, I turn into a big whinefest.

Ugh. Feel better soon, me.

Ok, so I want a Kindle 2. Do any of you have v. 1.0? Tell me what you think, because I’m thinking that I might have enough in my allowance to get one, and it’s so stinking cool, the new one, and I want to be hip like all the other kids my age.

Also, I have to pee.

*A good friend who always makes fun of me for being celiac (ok, well, he makes fun of me on most every topic) just found out he is allergic to wheat. I’m not happy about it, but I have to tell you, it’s the slightest bit amusing and karmic.
*At work yesterday, we started our next big project, the big priority, and we did a similar project over the last few weeks, but this one is much more complicated. It’s fun and also a little overwhelming.
*I’ve had a headache for two days. Boo.
*No word on the house. The latest is that the bank that’s foreclosing has asked the current owner for more info and documentation. I don’t get that, but whatevs. I really want to get this house so we don’t have to move. Also? We’ll get back $2,900 in deposits, and that will buy us an adult-sized refrigerator and a TV.
*We have given up on the whole don’t-clean-the-house-until-after-the-bank-sees-it thing. It’s driving us mad, so we’ve started cleaning, little by little. It will take a while and therefore still be messy when the bank comes.
*I’m really excited about Dollhouse, Joss’s new show. Not excited that it’s starting on Friday nights, but maybe the Terminator lead-in will help, since Fox has already sent Terminator to Friday nights to die. That double feature starts this Friday, the 13th. Make sure you’re watching!
*It snowed here last night.
*I was addicted to Cheetos last week. They contain milk. I’m still suffering.
*Currently I’m also addicted to Coca-Cola (very bad, very bad), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twilight, writing my novel, bean dip, James Marsters, and sunflower seeds. Pity me, people.

-image-checkout

So I’m at the store last night, picking up some frozen food for Frank since I never have time to cook for him these days. I grab some GF hamburger buns while I’m there, too, and all of my freezer food is GF, of course. GF pizza, etc. (Also another new purse, because I hated my giant purse so much that I couldn’t deal. But the purse has nothing to do with the story.)

So I get to the checkout.

CHECKER GUY: I miss gluten.
SARAHK: Me too. [What? I really don’t, except when I don’t feel like cooking or have time for it, because that’s when I want only one thing: $1 Totino’s pizzas.]
CG: My girlfriend’s celiac.
SARAHK: Me too.
CG: And I’m gluten-free with her, to be supportive.
SARAHK: My husband too. That’s really nice of you to support her that way. It makes it a lot easier.
CG: Well, it’s like you’re telling me I can’t have a beer after work but you’re going to sit there and drink one in front of me? That wouldn’t be nice. So the deal is, I don’t eat it in front of her. I can have it if I’m not with her, though.
SARAHK: [nods]
CG: And I don’t brag about the donuts I eat.
SARAHK: Except to me!

We laughed, and I took my purchases.

-image-Work

So last week was a very bad week for my company. Super-bad. Yesterday, we learned that starting Friday and ending next Friday, they’re letting most of us go, keeping somewhere between fifteen and twenty-five people for a couple of months, maybe a little longer.

This is a horrible time to look for a job in Boise. I won’t actually be looking for one if I’m let go–I’ll be retiring again to my two favorite jobs ever–housewife and writer. I would really like to hold on to my job until after we’ve bought this house, but I don’t know how realistic it is to hope for that. But I have a lot of coworkers who will be dumped into the awful Boise job market. There’s nothing out there. I know people who have been looking for months and found nothing. And I hear that most of the people in the other departments weren’t even looking until Friday or yesterday.

So it’s bad for a lot of people, especially the owners. It’s terribly sad.

Personally, I blame Barney Frank–the economy was standing on the ledge, and he went ahead and pushed it right off, the way I see things. Thanks for him, Massachusetts.

Ok, so last night on either House or Chuck (I think Chuck? Don’t remember.), Joshua Radin’s “Brand New Day” played at the end of the ep. Within about two seconds I was on iTunes downloading that lovely little song.

So here’s what I want to know. Is his other stuff any good? I love his voice, and I love love love acoustic guitar more than most things in this world (perhaps more than avocado, and that’s saying something), so y’all tell me if I should go ahead and buy the rest of his music.

Also. Y’all tell me more good acoustic guitary music that I will love. I’m a big huge fan of that plus sweet male vocals, so that combo is golden.

Kthx, mates.
