better behavior
I got great news when I picked up Rowdi at the dog spa yesterday. The dog spa is very into Cesar’s Way.
They’re working on getting all of their employees to use Cesar’s method with all of the dogs that come to the dog spa, and there’s one employee that doesn’t use the calm, assertive way with the dogs. Rowdi picked up on this, and Rowdi owns that girl. Rowdi respects the two owners and the other man there, but the other girl? Rowdi walks all over her. So Holly is having the girl read Cesar’s Way. I told Holly, “Oh good! Because some times when she comes home from here, she’s absolutely awful for two days, and I’ve just been wondering if she runs wild over here and does whatever she wants!” Holly said that used to be the way things were, but they’re getting all the dogs to respect them as the pack leaders. Sweet!
Holly said they were testing the whole calm assertive thing on Rowdi and she did really well with it, and I told her that’s what we do. She said that Rowdi had one issue. She cornered a dog. I perked up and listened. She started trying to corral a dog and wouldn’t let the dog go anywhere. Now, I’ve seen her do this. At the dog spa’s open house, I saw her corner a mini schnauzer like this at the end of the pond party, and it made me mad. She was bullying the little dog, and I did not find this acceptable. So I went over, calmly told her no, grabbed her by the collar, and put the leash on. We hosed her off, and took her home.
So when Holly saw Rowdi doing this, she went over to Rowdi - Holly seemed a little nervous telling me this, but she also knew it was okay to tell me, because I had already told her we’ve seen every episode of the Dog Whisperer, I’ve read more than half of the book, we recommend Cesar to everyone - and flipped her. Alpha rolled her. Nice. It gets better. She let all the other dogs sniff Rowdi while Rowdi was on her back. Humiliations galore. I was so happy when she told me this that I actually cried. I know, I’m a freak. Rowdi never tried bullying a dog like that again. She did it in the beginning of her stay, too, so it was a while.
After that, Holly had Rowdi’s complete respect.
Holly says they love my puppy. And when Holly told them I was there to pick up Rowdi, they said, “Oh good, she just jumped a fence to get to the pick up yard.” That’s my bad dog.
Oh. Appendix A. TMI. Last night she poohed something pink and rubber. I’m betting the dog spa is missing a rubber pink toy… yuck.
I *heart* Cesar! We don’t get NGC so we can’t watch him regularly, but we did get a free week of it last month…during a Dog Whisperer marathon! So I DVRd the whole blasted week and was set. Terrific! Our doggie is so much happier now that we go on these daily walks and treat him right. Woo!
